Toby the Tripawd
Howdy everybody! I’ve been a quiet observer now for awhile, but I figured it was about time that I joined the rank of tripawd’s members. I found the site a couple months ago when battling with the decision of if I should adopt the beautiful dog that was sleeping off the anesthesia at the E-vet’s office I worked at. Toby is a black pitbull mix that was being fostered by a lovely lady, and had just had his back right leg amputated. He was less than a year old, and his leg hadn’t grown in correctly. The BB that shone on the x-ray probably didn’t help either.
So, he came in for his operation, and my love-affair with him began as I led him to his kennel and took off his harness. Betraying the “mean pitbull” stereotype, he showered my face with slobbery kisses as I undid the buckles on his harness, radiating warmth and happiness even though he’d already had some hard knocks. Even when he was asleep, his innocent little face tugged on my heart as I shaved and cleaned him up for surgery.
When my shift was over, and I was going home for the night, his surgery was just beginning, and something about him made me drag my feet as I left to drive home in the snow. When I got home, I researched three-legged dogs, finding this site along the way. I was comforted by the love and spirit of the people here, and it helped me to decide that there was no way I could let Toby go home with anyone but me.
I’ve had Toby for less than a year now, but I cannot imagine him not being around. His joy and zeal for life helps me to look more positively on my own. I love him, and these will be his stories.

I love Toby’s face! His eyes are very expressive. Good for you for adopting him. It sounds like he had two strikes against him from the start, pit mix, and the leg. It takes a special person to want to open their home to a dog with issues, so I am so glad he has you.
We look forward to reading more about Toby,
Elizabeth and Sammy
